— Padma LakshimiOnions origins go way back to early Egypt
Onions are believed to have been first grown in Pakistan and Iran as long ago as 5000 years ago. It has been difficult to find evidence of them because of the nature of the onion itself---it left little evidence of its existence.
Anthropologists reported that onions were found in Egyptian tombs over three thousand years ago. King Ramses IV reportedly had onions in his eye sockets which is probably because it had a spiritual connection to the lives of those living at that time. There are also paintings of onions on the walls of pyramids.
Vidalia onions---a personal favorite
One of my favorite onions is the Vidalia. When I lived in Georgia, I bought them often. My favorite sandwich at the time was a Vidalia onion sandwich. I still bring home Vidalia's as often as I find them as I just enjoy the texture and flavor of this sweet onion.
