Christmas time is a lovely time of year. Families come together and often remember the Christmas Day of long ago.

Party time!!!

To many around the world, when we think of December the holiday we think of most often is Christmas. And it is indeed spectacular and a most wondrous time to celebrate for so many reasons...the birth of Christ, a time of giving, moments with family and friends.

In addition to that most special day, we have a whole month of other reasons to celebrate...some are strictly silly and maybe even ridiculous but there are others that will probably cause you to pause for a bit and be thankful.

You just may find one or two or more that will be added to your traditions for December.

Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let's not be afraid to receive each day's surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy It will open a new place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate more fully our shared humanity.

JSYK.....

These dates are being shared with you a bit before December so that you have time to make arrangements for any you wish to add to your already overflowing schedule of events.

Bathtub Party Day

Ok, this is day you can celebrate singly or with a friend or friends..It will be your call.

The most fascinating thing that I found out about this holiday is: tadaaa it is a copyrighted holiday.

I must have been living under a rock for many years because it was news to me that a holiday can be copyrighted. According to holidayinsight.com, it was created by wellcat.com. Who knew??

The first few days offer many choices

Some of these need to explanation really.

  • Maybe Fritters day.
  • ..for those who do not know a fritter is fried dough, often with meat, fruit, or veggies inside. So, enjoy a fritter, any kind of fritter, on this day.
  • Roof over your head day. .thankful for that one.. a home with four walls and a roof over my head....that is reason enough to celebrate all by itself.
  • National Repeal day ...now that is one that many will get behind with gusto...the repeal of Prohibition!!!

These first six days offer many possibilities...

It's all about the food

Cotton Candy, Brownies, Pasty....now they have my attention.

None of these really are healthy so if I participate in these celebrations I must do so in moderation.

Somehow a cup of moderation being served up with any of the above seems highly unlikely but you can give it a shot.

There is no wrong way to celebrate them unless of course you let them slip by with no notice of them at all.

If you are really pressed for time (imagine that happening), you could have one day of celebration and completely OD on junk in one day.

Sorry to the pastry chefs who think their delicacies are not in that category. And of course you could change them up a bit and they would be healthier.

Brownies too are taking a hit by being labeled junk but there are ways around that. Use dark chocolate, applesauce instead of butter, natural sweeteners and your brownie should redeem itself a bit.

At any rate, try not to miss these days to indulge.

Humbug Day just isn't me...

I am too much of a Pollyanna to be Scrooge at this time of the year...but if you must grumble and grouch, here is the day set aside for you.

Look at the Bright Side Day....

Now I am certain this day was invented for those of us who are eternally optimistic. I will probably put balloons on my fence and wrap ribbons around my cedar trees on this day.

Festivus

This was a new one for me....in a nutshell it is set aside for those who are OVER all of the commercialism associated with Christmas. Its origin is from an episode of Seinfeld ...known as the Strike. You may wish to review it for more detail. I may have to partake in this one a bit this year because I agree. There is too much about the STUFF and not enough about loving and giving of ourselves.

There's Even a Day for Mr. Scrooge...

December 19

Oatmeal Muffin Day

December 20

Go Caroling Day...if you didn't get to carol on the 8th...do it now!!!

December 22, 1892

The date 12/22 is not shown but it is a day I celebrate each year.

In 1892 my Daddy was born on that date.

He died at the age of 93 ....he is missed every single day....So this year, maybe you can help me celebrate my Daddy's birthday..Jesse Douglas Traughber...

O, the always said it was pronounced "Jess" even though it had the 'e' on the end ....that was just my Daddy.

December 25 CHRISTMAS DAY

May your day be merry and filled with wonder, love, and joy as you pause on this day for a moment to reflect and embrace friends and family.

Where is it?

There are still more occasions to celebrate here..as you see...but where is:

National Catch Your Breath Day

National Soak Your Feet Day

Regifting Day (o, that's right...that comes at the next birthday or next Christmas)

Shoo Out the Overnight Guests Day??

Just wondering...

There are still some on the official list to celebrate...my favorite has got to be

Make Up Your Mind Day.....that one is a goodie. Of course, that is for everyone else...not me.

I do not have a problem making up my mind...once I make up my mind.

You Gotta' Love the Special Observance on the 31st

December 26 Boxing Day

December 27 Make Cut Out Snowflakes Day

December 27 National Fruitcake Day

December 28 Card Playing Day

December 29 Pepper Pot Day

December 30 National Bicarbonate of Soda Day

December 31 Make up Your Mind Day

Every month has these silly days

Someone or a group of someones had too much time on their hands. They have compiled month after month of silly holidays for us to celebrate or not.

You are even invited to submit one of your own. Why not? Go ahead, dream up one, and begin circulating it. Who knows---it may become a hit.

Happy Celebrating Everything Day to you.
